I'm Melissa.
I am the owner, operator, webmaster, designer and seamstress of
Steady Tilt Clothing Designs.
The Creation Of Steady Tilt:
I have always aspired to own my own business but I never pursued it too seriously. Working a regular job, it did not allow me the time I needed to build a successful business nor did it make financial sense to abandon a steady paycheck in pursuit of an uncertain dream.
However when I found out myself and several others were losing our jobs due to corporate cutbacks, I was told by many people that when a door closes, a window opens and it could turn out to be the best thing that ever happened to me.
I saw nothing good about it until I realized the window of opportunity to do my own thing had presented itself and I'd be crazy not to
follow the path that it leads me down. But where was it leading me?
I knew I wanted to do something creative but I would really love to do something related to the music industry. But what? As much as I love music, I can't play an instrument and I definitely can not sing! But when you are soul searching and looking for answers, sometimes they come in the most unexpected way.
I was online looking for a gift for a friend, when I stumbled across something that reminded me of one of my favorite singers. I have been sewing on and off for years and I decided to make him something from it and give it to him the next time we saw him.
We attended their next nearby show and I gave him what I had made. He sat down with me, and said, "You should sell this stuff. It's really cool. I know I'd buy it!" And as we talked, it began to dawn on me...sewing rock 'n' roll clothing...as a serious job, not just a hobby I enjoyed...
So taking the words of Motley Crue to heart, "If you wanna live life on your own terms, ya gotta be willing to crash and burn", Steady Tilt became a reality.
Thank You:
A huge thank you goes out to my husband for letting me chase my dreams and start my own business. Thank you for working so hard to keep our heads above water financially, so I can fully concentrate on this. I love you.
A big thank you to my friends who have helped me more than I can ever repay. Thank you guys for always having my back by helping me with everything from networking, to making me a logo, for sharing your ideas and sharing your time with me, and everything in between.
A major thank you to the true rockers out there, from the famous rock stars to the garage bands, for doing what you do. Thank you for inspiring me and for rockin' my world the way you have. I don't know what I'd do without your music in my life.
And a rockin' thank you to a band out there, that has helped me more than they probably realize. Thank you. You have been just awesome to me. An extra thanks to their singer, who without even meaning to, put this into my head so I could put it into motion.
A very appreciative thank you goes out to my customers for shopping here. If you are here, it means you, or someone you love, loves rock music. In a time period that is littered with bubblegum pop music and rap, for me, rock remains the only pure and real music out there. The only music that captures my heart and speaks to my soul. Thank you for remembering what's true, what's pure and what's real, and for helping to keep rock 'n' roll alive.
Keep the horns up my friends,
Melissa
